The Melinda Consortium Sca was founded in 1998, on the base of the Development Consortium for apples from the Val di Non, dating back to 1989, the year when the Melinda brand officially came into being.
The Melinda Consortium is an organisation of producers included in the fruit and vegetable producer category in compliance with Regulation 22/00/96 EC. Today, the consortium has as its members all the 16 fruit cooperatives in the area identified as the “DOP Mela Val di Non” apple producing zone. The member cooperatives in turn have different numbers of members, totalling around 4,000 fruit producers, involved in the cultivation of apples in the Noce Valleys: the Val di Non and the Val di Sole. The Melinda Consortium Sca farms a total of around 6,500 hectares of land.
Within each cooperative, the member fruit-farmers who meet for the Ordinary Assemblies directly elect the members who form the Board of Directors for their particular cooperative. The president and vice president for each cooperative are then elected from these directors.
From the articles of association of one cooperative:
ART. 20 - “The board of directors is made up of a number of directors varying from five (5) to fifteen (15), elected with a majority vote by the assembly of the members.
At its first meeting, the board then elects a president and a vice president from the directors.
In turn, each president elected from the boards of directors of the 16 cooperatives represents his or her own cooperative within the Melinda Consortium, forming the Melinda Consortium Board of Directors. The Melinda Consortium Board of Directors is therefore made up of the 16 presidents, each one representing their own cooperative. Their main function is to approve or reject decisions and plans put forward by the Consortium Management Staff, comprising the CEO and five division managers: sales, marketing, processing, HR and quality.
Clicking on each of the 16 cooperatives, you can find out its year of foundation and the names of the people currently on its board of directors.
